The Village Nation 9245 Reseda Blvd. Suite #504 Northridge, CA 91324 (818) 674-3221 INFORMATION RELEASE: 1,000 Los Angeles Teens Called to Action-Asserting "We are the Solution!" Youth demonstrate the importance of giving: On Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2007 Los Angeles, CALIFORNIA witnessed as more than 1,100 students step into the harsh reality of street life. They came with the courage of Masai warriors, the strength of the Zulu and the boldness of the Moors. Many came curious, some came apprehensive, but all came tired of being labeled as the problem. In an act of service, these young men and women from as far North as Victorville, as far South as San Diego, and as far East as San Bernardino, came together and helped to feed thousands of men, women and children on this day of "Thanks." Donned in a shirt that displayed a simple word; "SOLUTION", they took steps necessary to chip away at the stigma that the problem with society today lies solely with its youth. Just as there is a valley of problems, there is also a sea of SOLUTIONS, and on this day there were stories within stories that made this event resonate with success. The student who shared that she was on the other side of the serving line 3 years ago, the 85 year-old church elder and an eight year old student who served the drinks side by side, and the hundreds of students getting up at 5:00 in the morning to meet the bus, only begins to tell the story. In the same spirit of freedom fighters, these young men and women, representing their schools, churches, group homes, neighborhoods and teams, came together for one cause; to be recognized and respected as a solution worthy of investing time, energy and resources. History shows us that the youth have been the driving force of many great movements. One of the concepts taught in The Village Nation is, "he's not heavy, he's my brother." It honors The Village Nation to collabrate with the Fred Jordan Mission and help provide our young brothers and sisters a platform to display their potential.
